Tagging Along at the Midwest Championship Adventure Race

By Carol Abrahamzon

On May 3 I finished the 24-hour Midwest Championship Adventure Race in Warsaw, Missouri. This race is put on by my favorite race director, Tiara Adams, and her dad, Ben. They know how create a very challenging but amazing course.

While I raced as a solo, the spectacular team Over Confident Under Trained, compromised of Jamie Miller and Jennifer Robertson, let me tag along since I'm a very poor navigator and they are both very good navigators.

On a scale of easiest to hardest races I've ever done. I would say this one ranks at the top with the hardest. An incredible amount of very difficult mountain biking has left my bottom side more than a bit tender!

While Warsaw may not have mountains, nearly the entire 60 to 70 miles of biking was nothing but one rough and rugged hill after another. It made me nearly cry for Mercy!!

Oh, and why not have you plot your own checkpoints on the map at the final transition area at 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning when you're freezing cold, dog tired, and slightly sleep deprived?? Jennifer and Jamie did a great job plotting that particular trek and final bike section.

We didn't have time to go after all of the points, but they were spot on with the placement of them.

I have a new appreciation for Casey's gas stations and they're ready to eat slices of pizza. I think you might have saved me, Casey's. I was ravenous and stuffed that slice down my throat in record time!

As for results, Jamie and Jennifer, Over Confident Under Trained, took second place in the two-person female category division. Racing under my Climax Seekers team name, I took third in the female solo division.

It was terrific to see so many of the friends I've come to know at the Off Road Rage Adventure Racing races! We're like one big family at a type 2 fun reunion! The type of family you're willing to share your Butt Paste with when someone runs out on the course!

Congratulations to everyone who participated, you showed up and gave it your all!
