Buff Betty 2025
Race Report
By Saleena DeVore

Short version: great day, great race! When you meet your teammates the night before and the day of, it can be a little scary. You hope they are not assholes. My teammates were AWESOME!
Anne-Marie and Amy were everything I hoped for! And of course Meg is always what I need. We did everything we set out to do. We covered 31.5 miles and took 2nd place!
Longer version: This was my eighth Buff Betty and is my favorite race. I love seeing so many women out there racing and cheering each other on. There were smiles on everyone we passed.
I also love the layout of Adventure Addicts Racing races. The Rogaine style allows people of all levels to play to their strengths and be challenged. When we did our planning we went conservative to allow time to learn while we were out there. Our timing was spot on for some great time management. Our nav was really strong. We even stopped by the ranger station for a potty break and to buy some much coveted sodas .
We trekked first. Got a little hemmed up on our last CP. It sucks when everything on the map looks right but you haven’t gone far enough.
We transitioned quickly to the bike. We heard rumors that the biking might be hard, so we gave ourselves plenty of time. Actually we over estimated by an hour which was great as we were able to spend more time on leg 4.
The paddle would have been way better with more water. Low water is not good for racers with junk in their trunk . Those damned skinny girls were able to get over the rocks while my butt had us marooned several times. Meg was a rockstar, getting out and pulling us over.
The views through the entire race were epic. We got new maps for leg 4 and quickly came up with our plan. The trek went well. The final bike leg was also great. I always get stressed about time at the end and we had debated about getting one of the CP’s.
I didn’t think we were in the right spot but my teammates convinced me we were and we should go for it. It’s a good thing we did because that was the CP that got us 2nd place!
