Regional Qualifier Race—Two Rivers

The first of the 2025-2026 USARA Regional Qualifier races kicks off Saturday, Nov. 15, in Philadelphia, PA, with the Two Rivers Adventure Race from Rootstock Racing.

Race directors Abby Perkiss and Brent Freedland started Rootstock 10 years ago and have grown the race from a 12 to a 24 hour race.

“There is some symmetry as our first Two Rivers was in Philadelphia, and the the convergence of the rivers was the inspiration for the name of the race,” says Freedland, who is now the Executive Director of USARA.

With the short days and long nights for the mid-November race, Freedland has stressed the need for rain gear for the thermal protection it can offer. And he has promised racers they can expect wet feet—so dry socks will be clutch.

Freedland and Perkiss have also laid out a course through some of the thorniest brush in the Delaware Valley. And true to Rootstock fashion, time management will be crucial as there will be about 170 checkpoints on the course. Oh! And they are not using orienteering flags because they don’t have 170 orienteering flags, so racers will be locating the punches along the course.
