New Year, New DEI Initiatives

USARA’s DEI Committee summarizes their work from 2023 and previews upcoming initiatives for 2024. Here’s what you can expect, and how you can help - whether you’re a race director, an athlete, or a fan of the sport.

The Checkpoint Podcast Needs YOU!

The Checkpoint is a monthly podcasting collaboration between The Dark Zone: An Adventure Racing Podcast, USARA, & YOU!

Before the main podcast discussion each month, we want to try something a bit different by asking you to share your AR “Lessons Learned” via a Telbee voicemail dropbox. Whether you have a story that fits the monthly topic or something totally different that you think other racers would enjoy listening to and learning from, call in and leave us a message, sharing your story and lessons learned in a few minutes or so. We can only choose one message per month, but if your story is chosen, we will start off each month by discussing and reflecting on it ourselves to kick off each episode. If not, we may use it in a future pod, and don’t be surprised if a special episode or two pop up as we go. After gathering your thoughts on what you want to listen to, we are excited about our plans to offer you a diverse assortment of topics each month.

While our planned slate is subject to change and some fine-tuning, here is the current lineup.

 ·         January: Off Season Maintenance and Care with Karyn Dulaney

·         February: How to Get Started in AR

·         March: Intro to Training

·         April: Arthur, The King

·         May: Leveling Up – 12-24 Hour Racing

·         June: Nighttime Racing

·         July: Lifestyle and Diet

·         August: Building a Team

·         September: Navigation

·         October: USARA Nationals: A History

·         November: Gear

·         December: AR Economics

Each month, we will invite a guest or two onto the show for a focused conversation, and we also will be highlighting our amazing race directors who are organizing this year’s regional qualifiers with a short discussion at the end of each pod.

Questions? Thoughts? We’d love to hear them, and we always will consider ideas for future episodes. We hope some of you will take the time to share your experiences with us! So drop your AR “Lessons Learned” via the Telbee voicemail dropbox.

Happy New Year, and keep your eyes and ears open for the first episode of The Checkpoint, dropping on The Dark Zones channel sometime soon!
