Overview
USARA maintains an annual point-series of USARA-sanctioned races. Scores are kept for three divisions: coed, all- male, and all-female. There is no need to register for the point series. All teams that enter USARA races are automatically included in the monthly series ranking.
The race season is defines by the date of the national championship race (typically in Sept/Oct). Races occurring after the championship will be scored in the following season.
All USARA-sanctioned races are included in the USARA point series provided:
The list of included races is published and updated throughout the season.
Results need to include the race date, location, winning time, and an ranked list of the teams that competed. Each team needs to have its associated division and team members listed. Here's a sample Excel sheet for guidance.
Adjustments to the rankings equations can occur once a year in October as needed.

Point Series Rules
1. A team consists of up to 8 different racers racing under the same team name for a given season. If the 8-member limit is exceeded, then only the highest scoring qualifier points containing 8 or fewer racers different racers will be scored.
2. Rankings will be calculated monthly, typically during the first week.
3. The top 5 races (by points earned) will count towards a team's score.
4. A tie in a race will result in splitting of the 2 positions points equally
5. A team can request changes by emailing USARA at results@usara.com.

Rankings Calculation

Points (1-120) for a given race are determined for first place using a sliding scale (standard distribution) dependent on the length of the race. The length of the race is defined by the finishing time of the overall first place team, and not by the published race duration.
- 3 hour: 1st = 14 points
- 12 hour: 1st = 30 points
- 24 hour: 1st = 50 points
- 48 hour: 1st = 82 points
- 96 hour: 1st = 117 points

A competition factor is then added: two points per team in the division for a new total. A division with 10 teams gains (10 x 2 = 20) points added to the top score. Points are then awarded to each team using a standard distribution (1st-40th). Teams that place out of the top 40 are awarded one point. A sample distribution is included for a 24 hour race with 30 teams.
All teams that DNF are scored at the bottom of their division plus 10 places (minimum 1 point).
