The Stubborn Mule is one of the longest-running races in the Midwest, offering racers a unique opportunity to explore the fabled Northwoods of Wisconsin. The race is renowned for its tough navigation through Wisconsin’s infamous kettle moraines – steep depressions that look deceptively similar to hilltops on topographical maps. The paddling is also fantastic, as Wisconsin is home to the third-most lakes of any state, and the Stubborn Mule has explored many of them, including the largest one in the United States, Lake Superior. And Northern Wisconsin is a mountain biker's paradise with some truly spectacular trails. Forged together by 2021 USARA National Championship Race Director Paula Waite’s crafty and creative course-setting, the Stubborn Mule offers any adventure racer looking to test their mettle the challenge of their season.
